I love my profession. I know how important good hearing can be to a high quality of life. I know that with so many technological advances there is a hearing aid that can help pretty much anyone.
One thing that I struggle to understand, though, is why people are so often neglectful of their hearing health.
I know people who are extremely conscientious about their health; they eat well, exercise regularly and go in for annual physicals, get their eyes checked and even make it to the dentist every 6 months.
But these same people have never had their hearing checked!
Many people wear glasses without a second thought but they are so concerned about the way a hearing aid will look, they don’t even get their hearing checked.
Often, the person with the hearing loss is the last to know. You simply don’t realize that you’re are missing things. It can become your “normal”.
That is why if family, friends or co-workers start to complain about your inability to hear them, you should pay attention.
Please don’t treat your hearing as an afterthought. Even if you have some hearing loss, it may not be permanent. Something as simple as a wax buildup in the ear could cause a hearing loss, but it is also reversible.
If your hearing loss is permanent, there are so many options in hearing aids available today that it just doesn’t make sense to miss out on life because of a hearing loss. Please include your hearing in your overall health and wellness routine.
You, and your friends, family and co-workers will be glad you did!
